Born 12 octobre 1863 in Boulogne sur Seine, he used the alias Martin van Maele (which also could be written as van Maële) and A van Troizem. He illustrated for Authors such as Charles Carrington and Jean Fort.
He made his debute with Les premiers Hommes dans la Lune and was to believed one of the great illustrators in his time. He illustrated for d'aventures de Sherlock Holmes and in 1901 he started to work together with Charles Carrington also he worked with Jean Fort.
